I love spending my days in our classroom! I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction. I taught in Salem-Keizer from 2000 to 2007 until my husband (who teaches at West Salem High School) and I started our family. I spent the next seven years as an at-home mom to my daughter Sydney (now age 12 and a 7th grader at Walker) and my son Aiden (now age 9 and a 4th grader here at Myers). During that time I continued to be involved in education, substitute teaching and then filling in for teachers on maternity leave. I like to think I was "tip-toeing" my way back into teaching.
For the past five years I've been teaching at Battle Creek Elementary School. I LOVE teaching blended classrooms, and at Battle Creek I taught 3rd/4th grade blends, straight 4th grade, and 4th/5th grade blends. When the opportunity to teach at Myers arose, I was so excited! What could be better than teaching a 4th/5th grade blend (my absolute favorite) right here at my neighborhood school!
I feel fortunate to come to a job I love every day! There's nothing better than walking into our classroom, knowing that together we'll be working on growing as human beings, supporting each other as we take on new challenges, and enjoying our learning process. We will read and discuss quality literature, grow as readers and writers of all genres, develop our mathematical skills and reasoning, learn to think like scientists, study people and events of history and how they impact us today, explore creativity through a variety of art projects, and above all else... have fun while learning and growing together.
